Service Technician

The Service Technician is expected to:

    •    Perform all repairs utilizing appropriate tools, procedures and operations.
    •    Disassemble and assess any supplemental needs, labor, parts, and communicate with Shop Foreman, Assistant Service Manager, or Service Advisor
    •    Perform quality repairs at all times and notify management of any substandard processes, parts or procedures.
    •    Communicate with appropriate personnel regarding any issue which may cause a repair delay to a vehicle.
    •    Maintain ability to handle job stress and effective interaction with others in the workplace.
    •    Maintain a clean and safe work environment at all times and adhere to all OSHA/EPA requirements.

There are many options for sales consultants who learn the best techniques of selling vehicles. The sales consultants career is full of advancement opportunities.

In most cases the auto sales career starts as a car sales consultant. There are advancement opportunities that may lead to being an Internet Sales Manager, Internet Sales Director, Sales Manager, Used Car Manager, Finance Manager and General Sales Manager (GSM). Even set your aspirations high and go on to become a General Manager (GM) of a dealership 

Internet Sales Manager: The job of the Internet Sales Manager is related to the sales consultant except they don't work on the sales floor and take Fresh Ups, rather they work with customers coming from Internet leads.

Internet Sales Director: The position of Internet Sales Director is usually responsible for managing the Internet Sales Team, which includes managing the Internet Sales Managers, Internet marketing, and the profitability of the Internet Sales department. Typically they don't work with customers, rather they oversee the Internet Department processes, website, and the lead providers.

Finance Manager: The Finance and Insurance Manager, also known as the F&I Manager, is the person that completes the transaction paperwork and sells the many different products the dealership offers. The F&I manager not only completes the paperwork, but sells extended warranties, service contracts, etc. The Finance Manager usually starts as a top selling sales consultant. 

Sales Manager: The Sales Manager uses their sales skills to try and close the deal if the salesman is not able. They supervise the sales consultants  to make sure customers are professionally being helped, observe the lot for customers, and monitor vehicle displays. They keep an eye on sales consultants to make sure they are following up on vehicle sales, and make sure they are setting appointments.

Used Car Manager: The Used Car Manager responsibilities include managing the used car inventory and maintaining the inventory for turnover and profitability. Some Used Car Managers may go to an auto auction to buy and sell vehicles depending on the most in demand used vehicles. They are responsible for the profits made on the used car inventory, appraises trade-ins, and monitors how much money is in a trade. Although not required, having a service background is beneficial for a used car manager.

General Sales Manager: The GSM, or General Sales Manager, manages all the Sales Managers, Sales Consultants, Finance Managers, Used Car Manager, Internet Director, Internet Sales Managers, as well as car Sales Consultant's training. The General Sales Manager answers to the General Manager. Typically the General Sales Manager is promoted from a top sales manager or they may be hired from the outside.

General Manager: The General Manager is responsible for everything. It is more than just falling under the umbrella of a vehicle sales career as it requires much more than the ability to sell cars. General Managers need to know bookkeeping and accounting, legal matters and compliance, state and federal regulations and more. The General Manager needs experience in the performance of sales, service, parts and the profitability of those departments.
